So how about external speaker docks? They range in audio quality from smokin' to broken. Let's take a quick look at the top three speakers for Zune.
Kicker ZK500 Zune Speaker Dock
One of Kicker's most powerful MP3 docking stations available on the market, the zK500 lets you get more out of your Zune than ever before. Bass and treble options let users to take pleasure in their music the way they want. The huge, thumping speakers, 5-inch woofers, and 40-watt stereo amplifiers deliver the kind of crisp, powerful sound you expect from a Kicker product. Kicker's patent-pending 6-inch square reflex subwoofer generates a dynamic bass response not matched by other MP3 docking stations.
I just purchased the zkicker 500 and have had it for a week. It's an remarkable product. The sound is particularly clear and crisp, much better than anything else I own. Do not worry about turning this system up. At volume level 16/40 it rattles the pictures on my wall. Even at very high volumes there's zero distortion. Bass is clean and it puts out a lot of bass. Not as much as your 15" sub in your car, but more than enough. I've never witnessed a speaker system so small that puts out close to this much sound. It has -9 on the treble and bass settings so you can make it do what you want with your favorite songs. The remote completely controls the zune quite accurately. It connects to an entertainment system by way of component video. It displays motion pictures great and really adds to your sound system. When I watch films I hook it up to have a bigger range of sound. I highly recommend this product. I would even recommend this unit even if you don't have a zune, it has an auxiliary input for any sound device. It really is well worth every penny!

Altec Lansing inMotion iM414 Portable Speaker Dock for Zune
With its sleek and advanced design, the iM414 is fashioned to complement your contemporary way of life. Backed with enough power to provide full-range, full-bodied sound in the kitchen, living room, or bedroom, the iM414 runs on three AAA batteries (not included) that will power the unit for as much as 24 hours. For those times when you will not want to worry about battery life, the iM414 includes an AC adapter for nonstop playback performance.
The im414 is really a magnificent attribute to my Zune. The sound is amazing for such a small and economical product. It's very effortless to operate. I like the fact that my satellite radio plugs directly into the im414, eliminating the need to use a stereo amp to benefit from that radio in my house. It's also quite transportable for use with the Zune. (The satellite radio requires an antenna to be brought along with it.)

Zlive Speaker System and Docking Station for Zune
The ZLive NS108B docking speaker system makes sharing your your favourite music a snap. This unit connects to all Zune players with the certified connection. You also can connect to any MP3 player, cell phone, or video game console with the line input. Control your music from across the room while using the remote, and benefit from room-filling sound from the acoustically calibrated stereo speakers.
Right after searching all over for a Docking Station for the new Zunes I just purchased for my two girls for Christmas, I finally discovered this through Amazon (every thing is for I-Pods ... oyyyy). I did come across an additional sort of docking station at Best Buy, which was $99, but read poor reviews on the Internet. I was agreeably surprised at the clarity and volume for such a little box. As other people have pointed out, it just isn't a Bose stereo which you will use for a great party, but definitely will serve your objective for a kitchen or bedroom. My girls completely loved them. I really paid $59.99 just prior to Christmas, but now see these are $47.99, which I am bummed since I can't return them because they're opened, becoming utilized and would spend the difference of savings on shipping back. Even so, I think these are really worth the price - $59.99 or $47.99.
